Intro

The Narrow Way

Jesus said, " Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate and broad is the way, that leads to destruction and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it."
Matthew 7:13,14

Intro_2

There are many different religions in the world. Which way or religion is right? In the Bible, Jesus describes for us the way that leads to life--eternal life in heaven. Does it really matter what I believe?

WHY DID JESUS SAY THE GATE TO HEAVEN IS NARROW?

Notice several reasons why Jesus emphasizes the gate or entrance to heaven is narrow.

HN_1

1. Because Jesus is the ONLY name by which you can be saved.

Acts 4:12 "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

2. Because Jesus is the ONLY one who died for your sins.

Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

3. Because Jesus is the
ONLY way to the Father.

John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

4. Because salvation is not by good works or religious rituals.

Ephesians 2:8,9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
Many people are depending on their good works to get them to Heaven-- no person will make it to Heaven on that basis.

5. Because salvation is ONLY by true faith in Jesus Christ

Jesus says the gate to Heaven is narrow because there is only one way.
True belief/faith is to RECEIVE Jesus Christ as your personal Savior from sin and to receive him as the Lord of your life.
This is a personal decision of the will at a specific point in time; a transaction made with God to receive Him.

5. Because salvation is ONLY by true faith in Jesus Christ

John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"

Believing the facts about Jesus does not make a person a Christian. The devils believe all the facts about Jesus but will never turn from their sinful ways and receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

5. Because salvation is ONLY by true faith in Jesus Christ

True belief/faith ALWAYS includes repentance.
Jesus makes clear no person would be saved that does not repent.
Luke 13:3 "I tell you, Nay: but except ye re-pent, ye shall all likewise perish."
Repentance is when one sees and agrees that they are a sinner with a sinful heart and they gladly turn to Jesus by faith to deliver them from their sin.
True belief/faith is 100% faith ON Jesus Christ and 0% on any kind of religious ceremony (like baptism, prayer) or good works.

WHY DID JESUS SAY THE WAY OF LIFE IS NARROW?

The way of life is a reference to how a Christian should live. God now intends for the Christian to live differently than the world. While the way may be narrow, it is the path of God's blessing and protection.

1. Because the Christian life is a life of OBEDIENCE

Instead of living however he wants, a Christian is now governed by the Bible and now seeks to obey what God commands. This is a new way of life, but one he delights in.
John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments."
Matthew 7:21 "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."

2. Because the Christian life is a life of
SELF DENIAL

It is a life of following Jesus, and seeking to please Him.
Matthew 16:24 "Then said Jesus...If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me."

3. Because the Christian life is a life of
HOLINESS

God commands us to be holy like He is holy.
I Peter 1:16 "Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."
I John 2:15 "...if any man love the world….. the love of the Father is not in him."

4. Because the Christian life is a life of
SURRENDER & SERVICE.

Romans 12:1 "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."

4. Because the Christian life is a life of
SURRENDER & SERVICE.

God's way to heaven, as well as the right way to live, is a narrow way. The way to destruction (hell), God says is broad and many are going that way. Which path are you on?
HAVE YOU ENTERED THE NARROW GATE? HAVE YOU BEEN SAVED GOD'S WAY OR ARE YOU TRYING TO GET TO HEAVEN YOUR WAY?
ARE YOU ON THE NARROW PATH? ARE YOU WANTING CHRISTIANITY TO FIT YOUR IDEAS AND LIFESTYLE, OR ARE YOU FOLLOWING THE NARROW PATH DESCRIBED IN THE BIBLE?

4. Because the Christian life is a life of
SURRENDER & SERVICE.

Will you today enter the narrow gate and receive Him as the Lord of your life and continue on His narrow way?
